Ayobami Analowo, a 24-year-old student, was sentenced to six months in prison by a Jos Magistrates’ Court for stealing a gas cylinder.
Inspector Ibrahim Gokwat, the prosecution’s attorney, informed the court that Abraham Godwin, the complainant, had reported the matter on March 2 at the “A” Police Station in Jos.
The criminal broke into the complainant’s home and took the gas cylinder, according to Inspector Ibrahim.
He added that the gas cylinder was found in his possession, during a police investigation.
The offence, according to him, is punishable under the Plateau State Penal Code Law.
However, Justice Shawomi Bokkos who sentenced Analowo after he pleaded guilty, gave the convict an option to pay N20,000.
The judge asserted that the punishment would serve as a deterrent to other intending offenders.
