3rd Oct Strike: Again, Labour leaders in closed door meeting with FG over final decision

Labour leaders are currently meeting with the Federal Government in an emergency meeting to discuss the proposed nationwide indefinite strike, which is set to begin tomorrow, October 3.

According to Platinum Times, unions including the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and the Trade Union Congress, TUC, arrived at the Presidential Villa to inform the Federal Government of the planned strike.

The TUC finished its National Executive Council, NEC, meeting on Monday, following its earlier meeting with the Federal Government on Sunday, where certain resolutions were made.

Following the NEC meeting earlier on Monday, TUC President Tommy Etim stated that a meeting with the Federal Government was the next step.

He said,

“We just concluded our meeting a few hours ago, and we received some recommendations from our members, which we will convey to the government later today.”

Recall that the Federal Government had announced wage increment, removal of Value Added Tax, facilitation of Compressed Natural Gas initiative and other resolutions after meeting with NLC and TUC on Sunday.

Organized Labour on September 26 announced plans to embark on an indefinite strike on Tuesday, October 3, over fuel subsidy occasioned challenges.
