9 former commissioners to be rescreened, confirmed by Rivers Assembly

Nine former commissioners who resigned from the state executive council on Wednesday will be rescreened and confirmed by the Rivers State House of Assembly.

This is stated in a statement made on Monday in Port Harcourt and signed by the house clerk, Mr. Emeka Amadi.

The clerk listed the commissioners as follows: Prof. Zacchaeus Adangor (SAN), Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice; Dr. Des George-Kelly, Commissioner for Works; Emeka Woke, Commissioner for Special Duties; Mrs. Inime Aguma, Commissioner for Social Welfare and Rehabilitation; and Isaac Kamalu, Commissioner for Finance.

The others are Dr. Gift Worlu, Commissioner for Housing; Prof. Chinedu Mmom, Commissioner for Education; Dr. Jacobson Nbina, Commissioner for Transport; and Austin Ben-Chioma, Commissioner for the Environment.

He stated that they must present 40 sets of their curriculum vitae, photocopies of their credentials, and original copies to the State House of Assembly’s Legislative Quarters—the location of the screening.

The News Agency of Nigeria reported that on December 16, 2023, a whirlwind of resignations had hit the State’s Executive Council following the political dispute between the Governor of the state, Siminalayi Fubara, and his predecessor, the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

Resignations were made by Adangor, George-Kelly, Woke, Aguma, Kamalu, Mmom, and Ben-Chioma.

NAN further notes that one of the conditions of President Tinubu’s peace accord with Fubara was the reinstatement of the previous commissioners who had quit their positions.
