Unknown gunmen assassinate Police Officer, wife in Imo

Mr. and Mrs. Sampson Owobo were reportedly shot and killed by three gunmen in Owerri, the capital of Imo State.
Owobo, who is from Edo State, is a former assistant superintendent of police, according to information obtained by Platinum Times.
Locals and business owners were confused by the unpleasant occurrence, which happened on Sunday night at around 8 o’clock outside the Chisco Transport office close to the Owerri Area Police Command Office.
In contrast to business owners who fled the area, residents ran inside to lock the doors to their apartments.
An eyewitness reported seeing the couple’s bag, which contained an unknown amount of cash, being attempted to be taken by the suspected armed robbers who were fleeing in a car.
The retired ASP was shot in the forehead at close range by the three-man gang after they failed to steal the bag of cash, according to the eyewitness.
“His wife was also shot at a close range, at her left side, near her chest.
“While the wife was taken by cops to the Federal Medical Centre, Owerri, where she was later confirmed dead, the husband passed away right there.
“The armed thieves were attempting to snatch a bag containing cash while brandishing pump action rifles. The couple sells bread, and operates a POS business,” the source disclosed.
When reached, Henry Okoye, the spokesman for the State’s police command, confirmed the couple’s murder.
“The couple’s murder is strongly condemned. The CP disapproves of the couple’s murder, and he has promptly launched an investigation into it with the goal of catching the eluding offenders,” Okoye stated.
