Gov Namadi donates canoes to flooded communities in Jigawa

The majority-affected communities have received canoes and other materials for embankments from the Jigawa State Government.

This was said by Governor Umar Namadi during the distribution exercise’s official flag-off on Wednesday in Ringim Local Government Area. He said that the action is a component of the state government’s efforts to lessen the constant flooding and canoe accidents that have cost residents their lives and property.

According to the Platinum Times, last year’s flooding and boat incidents resulted in over 100 fatalities.

The 13 localities in Jigawa State that were most impacted by riverine and lowland flooding received the supplies.

According to Gov Namadi:

“The materials, which include canoes, hoes, cutlasses, rakes, shovels, and fishing nets, were distributed to 15 self-help groups drawn from 13 local government areas most hit by flooding in the state.”

This comes after Jigawa State and other areas could experience flooding, according to the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet).

In order to prevent the loss of lives and property during the rainy season, the Agency has advised risk and disaster management, agencies, and individuals to take preventative measures.

According to research by Platinum Times, the majority of the state’s riverine regions are home to people who rely on ancient, deteriorated canoes for transportation, which is what led to the high number of accidents last year.
