BREAKING: Deputy CBN Governor Kingsley Obiora arrested by DSS

Kingsley Obiora, the deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in charge of economic policy, has been taken into custody by the Department of State Services (DSS).

According to sources, his detention came after Godwin Emefiele, a suspended CBN governor, was accused of financial mismanagement.

According to rumors, Obiora was being sought after as a key witness against his employer Emefiele. On March 2, 2020, Obiora, who was born on March 6, 1976, resumed his position as Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

He formerly held the position of substitute executive director at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington, DC, USA. He served as a member of the executive board in this position, which is in charge of managing the IMF’s daily operations. He also helped the board reflect the interests of 23 African nations, including Nigeria.

Another senior CBN officer, Abbas Masanawa, was recently detained by the DSS while being investigated for the depth of Emefiele’s suspected wrongdoing.

Since June 10, 2023, when President Bola Tinubu ousted him from office, Emefiele has been under the DSS’s care.
