16 victims rescued as Police raids kidnappers hideout in Bauchi

16 abducted persons have been rescued during a raid on kidnapper hideouts by men of the Nigeria Police in Lame Burra Forest in Ningi Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

The police also defeated a large number of the kidnappers while stepping up their attempts to catch and charge any criminals who fled the scene with possible gunshot wounds.

Rescue efforts were coordinated with Operation Restore Peace (ORP), which includes law enforcement, the military, and other quasi-security organizations, particularly neighborhood hunters on a routine patrol.

According to a statement made on Sunday by the command’s spokesman, SP Ahmed Wakil, the joint security forces reportedly attacked the kidnappers’ hideout on top of a mountain in the Shande neighborhood of Kurmi, a village on the fringes of Burra, on September 2, 2023.

The command gave the names of the rescued victims as Zahariya Ibrahim, 17, female, from Dana Village, Burra; Walida Idi, 16, female, from Sabon da Mazai Village, Burra; Maryam Shehu, 25, female, from Sabon Gida Mazai village, Burra; Abubakar Adamu, 15, male, of Ruwan Dinya village, Burra; and Muntari Badamasi, 40, male, of Shaka Leme village in Burra.

Other members of the group include Saleh Umaru, 35, of Matigwai village in Sumaila Local Government Area of Kano State; Ibrahim Abdullahi, 15, of Ruwan Dinya village, Burra; Sani Abdullahi, 10, of Ruwan Dinya village, Burra; Isah Tashi, 20, of Kere Village, Burra; and Tasi’u Abdullahi, 30, of Shaka Leme Village, Burra.

Alh. Shuaibu from Kurmi village in Burra, Alh. Bammi from Kongoro village in Burra, Mai Unguwa Shende from Burra, Dantsoho Mai Shayi from Kurmi village in Burra, and Abubakar from Matigwai village in Sumaila Local Government Area of Kano State are among the victims who were rescued with injuries.

According to Wakil, the injured individuals have been sent to Burra General Hospital for urgent medical attention.

According to Wakil:

“On sighting the team of combined operatives, the kidnappers started firing at the operatives. However, in response, the operatives repelled the kidnappers with superior firepower, which lasted for about two hours. As a result, 16 kidnapped victims were rescued, five of whom sustained various degrees of injuries, while the remaining 11 were rescued unhurt.”
