Oct 3 Nation-wide strike: More trouble as Trade Unions boycott meeting with FG

Leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and their counterparts from the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, TUC, boycotted a meeting convened by the Federal Government on Friday in a desperate attempt to avoid a Nation-wide strike scheduled for October 3.

According to the two labour union, the government’s invitation arrived late because they had engagements outside of Abuja, the federal capital.

The administration called an emergency meeting with the leaders of the NLC and TUC on Friday in an attempt to persuade Organized Labour and its supporters to call off the strike.

The meeting, which was set for Friday, 12 noon at Aso Villa, Conference Room of the Office of the Chief of Staff to Mr. President, was later rescheduled to the evening to allow the NLC and TUC to contact their leaders outside Abuja, according to Platinum Times.

The NLC and its TUC equivalent, according to Platinum Times sources, got the government’s invitation this morning via the ministry of labor and employment.

Platinum Times recalls that, in an attempt to avert the planned nationwide strike on October 3, the Federal Government, FG, has called an emergency meeting with the heads of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and its counterpart, the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, TUC.
