Bayelsa Guber: How we granted APC deputy candidate Joshua Maciver amnesty – Prison Boss

Haliru Nababa, in response to a request made by the Managing Solicitor of the Benjamin S. Ogbara & Co., Benjamin Ogbara Esq, on the status of Joshua Maciver’s prison sentence, stated that while he was remanded and serving a prison sentence in the Kaduna Prison following a conviction in the charge number FHC/KD/19c/2004, Joshua Maciver and other Niger Delta militants were granted amnesty. 

The Comptroller General of Correctional Service, Haliru Nababa, has dismissed as “incorrect” claims that Great Joshua Maciver, the Deputy Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State, is on the correctional service’s wanted list following his 2010 jailbreak from Kaduna prisons where he was remanded for terrorism.

In response to Dr. Nnamdi Maurice Mbaeri, the Permanent Secretary, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (General Service Office), the Interim Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Maj. Gen. Barry Tariye Ndiomu (rtd), stated in a separate letter that a proper check of the data of the Presidential Amnesty Programme had revealed that Maciver was a beneficiary of the amnesty deal granted to former militants

Ndiomu said,

“Due to the urgency of the requests for confirmation of Joshua Maciver’s status, our technical and data unit provided information hastily as indicated by the dates of both letters received and responses.

“Upon thorough investigation, we have identified an oversight in our record regarding Great Joshua Maciver’s PAP beneficiary status. It has now been established that Joshua Maciver received an unconditional pardon from Late President Musa Yar’Adua. We regret the oversight.”

Benjamin S. Ogbara Esq had written to both the Office of the Comptroller General of Correctional Service and the Presidential Amnesty seeking the prison and Presidential Amnesty status of Maciver.
