Cross River clears ex-Olympian Ironbar’s N2m medical bill, offers him coaching job

Two months after removing ex-Olympian Etim Ironbar from the streets of Lagos, where he was squatting and performing menial labor to survive, the Cross River State Government claims that it has spent more over N10 million on his medical rehabilitation.

Ironbar has also been hired by the state government as the team’s weightlifting coach.

Elvert Ayambem, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, gave Ironbar the letter of appointment on Monday, effective as of the first day of October 2023.

Agnes Atsu, the commissioner for sports development, announced the news in her office.

“The appointment of the former olympian has come shortly after the state governor spent about two million naira medical bill to stabilize and return Ironbar’s fitness”, she said.

Ironbar has expressed happiness over the appointment as well as the medical rehabilitation.

He prayed God to grant the governor and his cabinet members good health for finding him worthy.

The ex-Olympian also pledged to serve the state through his wealth of knowledge in the sports sector.
