Badly beaten NLC President Joe Ajaero rushed to Police hospital (photos)

Comrade Joe Ajaero, the brutalized President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), was taken to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Owerri, where he was given surgery to close his right eye.

Comrade Benson Upah, the Head of Information and Publicity for the NLC, explained that Ajaero was abducted and that the incident escalated into an attempted murder.

“Congress President, Comrade Joe Ajaero, was contacted this evening at approximately 15:30 hours at the Owerri Police Hospital. He was subsequently transported to the Federal Medical Centre, Owerri, where he is undergoing medical treatment,” the statement reads.

“Thoroughly brutalized, his right eye at the time of contact was completely shut.”

He further said, “Ajaero, who said little stated that immediately after his arrest, he was beaten up and blindfolded and taken to an unknown destination where more brutalisation took place, sometimes with bottles.

“His phones, money and other personal effects were taken off him and have not been returned to him.”
