Reaction trails Tinubu’s substitution of INEC REC

It has come to light that the individual screened by the Senate yesterday was not President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s choice for the Resident Electoral Commission (REC) in Niger State.

Prior to yesterday, Mohammed Sadiq made an appearance before the Senate panel, replacing Prof. Mohammed Yelwa as the president’s nominee.

The Red Chamber screened Sadiq and verified that he was REC-designate.

There was a claim that a senator “smuggled” Sadiq’s name into the Order paper by replacing it with the president’s nominee.

The Senate was not given an opportunity to see any of the ten nominees who were supposed to be screened yesterday, including Anugbum Onuoha (Rivers); Isma’ila Kaura Moyi (Zamfara); and Bunmi Omoseyindemi (Lagos).

The following have been cleared: Oluwatoyin Babalola (Ekiti); Abubakar Ahmed Ma’aji (Gombe); Etekarnba Umoren (Akwa Ibom); Shehu Wahab (Kwara); and Aminu Kasimi Idris (Nasarawa). (Courtesy, The Nation, except headline)
