Just In:(Nov.11 election) IGP orders restriction of vehicle movement in Bayelsa, Kogi, Imo, deploys marine gunboats

On Tuesday, Kayode Egbetokun, the Inspector-General of Police, declared that as of Friday, there will be no movement of cars in Imo, Kogi, and Bayelsa, nor movement of ships, canoes, or other water-based modes of transportation.

Egbetokun prohibited certain state security groups, such as Ebubeagu and other quasi-groups, from conducting operations during the exercise. He said that the decision was in keeping with the steps implemented to guarantee free, fair, and credible elections in the three states.

The top police officer revealed this at the ongoing Force Headquarters press briefing, explaining that because the three States are characterized by their riverine environment, both marines and gunboats have been stationed there.

The police chief, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, stated through a spokesman for the Force and insisted that the three States had been fortified with various security tools, including helicopters for aerial patrol.
