Gov Namadi presents N298.14bn 2024 Appropriation Bill to Jigawa Assembly

Jigawa State Governor Malam Umar Namadi has presented the State House of Assembly with a N298.14 billion 2024 Appropriation Bill.

The 2024 budget Bill, dubbed “Budget for a Greater Jigawa,” is over 23% larger than the total budget in the fiscal year 2023.

The governor stated that almost N111.98 billion, or approximately 37% of the overall budget, is designated for recurrent expenditure, while the remaining N175.44 billion, or nearly 59%, is designated for capital investments.

He noted that N131.8 billion was provided to two vital human development areas – health and education – representing more than two-fifths of the total budget, demonstrating the importance his government places on human capital development.

The overall recurring and capital allocation to the education sector exceeds N95.5 billion, accounting for almost 32% of the total planned budget.

According to the governor, this greatly exceeds the upper limit of the UNESCO Education For All Initiatives’ 15 to 20% target.

The overall combined recurrent and capital expenditure for the Health Sector is N36.2 billion, representing around 12.2 percent of the total budget – somewhat less than the 15% norm set by the African Union Abuja Health Declaration.

Haruna Aliyu Dangyatum, Speaker of the Jigawa State House of Assembly, praised the interaction between the executive and legislative branches.

He promised that the budget would be passed within four weeks.
