Court bars Anyanwu from parading himself as PDP National Secretary

A Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja has ordered Senator Samuel Anyanwu to stop posing as the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) National Secretary.
The order followed a suit seeking an interlocutory injunction preventing the PDP from recognizing Anyanwu as the party’s National Secretary awaiting the outcome of the substantive dispute.
The complainant in the FCT/HC/M/015/23 complaint is Douglas Nwachukwu, while the defendants are the PDP, Anyanwu, and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
Justice M.M Adamu prohibited Anyanwu from presenting himself as the PDP’s National Secretary after hearing a motion on notice from F. S. Jimba, counsel for the applicant.
Adamu further barred the PDP and INEC from recognizing Anyanwu as National Secretary until the substantive suit was resolved.
The hearing on the substantive suit has been scheduled for January 24, 2024.
According to this source, Anyanwu was the PDP’s gubernatorial candidate in the recently ended election in Imo State, but he lost to the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Hope Uzodinma.
On Tuesday, he resumed his duties as National Secretary in the party’s National Secretariat.
According to Platinum Times, certain party stakeholders urged his resignation as national secretary prior to Saturday’s poll.
On Tuesday, Anyanwu addressed personnel at the PDP National Secretariat, thanking party members for their support throughout the election.
