JUST IN: Jigawa Assembly issues on suspension 3 LGA chairmen

Three local government council chairmen in Jigawa State were suspended by the state’s House of Assembly.
Hon Mubarak Ahmed of Birniwa local government, Hon Rufai Sunusi of Gumel local government, and Hon Umar Baffa of Birniwa local government are among the suspended chairmen.
The suspension comes after charges that the chairmen traveled to Rwanda without approval from the state executive or assembly.
The decision was made by the House after the Chairman of the House Committee on Local Government Affairs, Hon Aminu Zakari Tsubut, proposed a resolution to suspend the concerned council chairs.
He explained that the House had advised the state’s local government council chairmen not to travel anywhere because of the preparation of the 2024 Appropriation Bill and its presentation to the Assembly by Governor Umar Namadi.
Tsubut condemned the chairmen’s actions as insubordination, which should be examined and punished in accordance with the law.
The suspension of the three local government chairmen was accepted unanimously by the House, and their deputies were directed to take over.
The House also formed a committee, chaired by Majority Leader Hon Lawan Muhammad Dansure, to investigate the problem and report back in four weeks for further action.
