Court stops PDP’s attempt to remove Anyanwu as national secretary

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been directed by a Federal High Court in Abuja not to dismiss Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the party’s national secretary until the substantive matter is heard and settled.

In a ruling issued on Thursday, Justice Inyang Ekwo allowed Joshua Musa, SAN’s ex-parte motion.

He then continued the case until December 4 for a hearing on the notice application.

Geoffrey Ihentuge and Apollo’s Godspower, two party members, have sued the PDP, Umar Aliyu Damagun (acting National Chairman), and the National Executive Committee (NEC) as first to third defendants.

The fourth and fifth defendants are the National Working Committee (NWC) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The motion was submitted in line with FHC (Civil Procedure) Rules, 2019, Order 26, Rules 2 and 6, as well as the court’s inherent authority.

The plaintiffs sought an injunction to prevent the first, second, third, and fourth defendants from following out their threat to depose the national secretary (Anyanwu).

This, he alleges, is a violation of Article 47 (1) of the PDP Constitution (as revised in 2017), and he is requesting a hearing and decision on the notice move.
