JUST IN: Abuja Court adjourns Emefiele’s trail till January 18

The trial in the lawsuit alleging procurement fraud against Godwin Emefiele, the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, has been adjourned by the Federal Capital Territory High Court until January 18, 2024.
By issuing a contract for the purchase of 43 automobiles valued at N1.2 billion between 2018 and 2020, Emefiele was accused of using his position to provide Sa’adatu Yaro, a CBN employee, a corrupt benefit.
After that, he was placed under house arrest at the Kuje Correctional Center until November 22, when his bail application was to be decided.
However, Emefiele was given N300 million in bail by Judge Hamza Muazu.
The former governor of the CBN, he continued, needed to provide two sureties in the same amount.
The judge pointed out that the sureties needed to possess titles and certificates of occupancy for homes located in Abuja’s Maitama neighborhood.
Emefiele was hauled to court and taken away by armed Nigerian Correctional Service officials; he has not yet complied with his bail conditions.
