Ooni of Ife pays visit to Emefiele in Kuje Prison
The Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, has visited former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Godwin Emefiele at the Kuje Maximum Security Prison in Abuja.
According to a source within the prison (now known as the correctional institution), the monarch paid two visits on Tuesday, December 5th.
According to the source, the monarch paid a visit to the facility in the afternoon and then returned a few hours later.
According to reports, the monarch had lengthy meetings with the beleaguered former CBN governor on both occasions.
Following the conversations, the monarch advocated for Emefiele’s release, despite his failure to meet the terms of the N300 million bond issued by a court.
Due to his inability to meet the bail condition, the former CBN governor would be incarcerated till 2024.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) summoned Emefiele to court on a six-count charge of procurement fraud.
He was accused of using his position to provide Sa’adatu Yaro, a CBN employee, a dishonest benefit by issuing a contract for the procurement of 43 automobiles worth N1.2 billion between 2018 and 2020.
Emefiele was previously detained by the Department of State Security (DSS) for nearly four months before being apprehended by the anti-graft agency.
Attempts to reach the Ooni’s spokesperson, Moses Olafare, were useless because he did not pick up the phone or react to a text message requesting information about the monarch’s meeting with Emefiele.
