Alleged Vote Buying: NDLEA testifies against Adebutu
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, testified on Friday in a lawsuit filed by the Federal Government against Ladi Adebutu, the Peoples Democratic Party’s governorship candidate in Ogun State in the 2023 election.
The CIA testified before an Ogun State High Court through an operator named Kelechi Kenneth.
It will be remembered that the Federal Government had taken Adebutu and nine others to court over alleged vote buying during the state’s last election.
While testifying before the court, Kenneth said,
“We didn’t accuse anyone of vote buying. On the day of the election, we saw four men on a bike with 52 cards looking like ATM cards with the imprint Adam Caroline Aladuni Adebutu memorial endorsement scheme for less privileges. We arrested the men, took their statements and handed them over to the police.
“They said they were coming from their work, where they held a meeting with other PDP leaders and they were given 52 cards to distribute to their members at the OGBC Polling Unit 17 and that each card contained N10,000 with accessed code of 0303.”
Meanwhile, while speaking before the court, Mr Adebutu’s lawyer, Goddy Uche, told the judge that some sections of the media (not DAILY POST) had reported that his client was being tried for money laundering.
