2024 Budget: FG to use N23bn for airport rehabilitate, others

In the fiscal year 2024, the Federal Government intends to spend N23,085,000,000 on the restoration and repair of airports, airfields, and air navigational equipment.
A total of N20,985,000,000 was budgeted from this allocation for airport and aerodrome rehabilitation and repairs, while 2.1 billion was budgeted to restore aviation navigational equipment.
The number, which is part of the FG’s executive recommendation in the Appropriation Bill for 2024, also includes N63.31 billion for the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development.
While the ministry would receive N39.80 billion, the Nigerian Meteorological Agency will receive N13,199,789,935, the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology, Zaria will receive N5,500,235,528 and the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau will receive N4,808,779,916.
Other allocation information revealed that the Aviation Ministry and its agencies would spend nearly N1.39 billion on refreshments and meals, welfare packages, and sporting activities, among other things.
The Ministry intends to invest N2 billion on the establishment of Aerospace University in Abuja and N1 billion on the extension of Murtala Mohammed Airport’s wing D and E fingers in Lagos as a continuing project.
In addition, while N500 million has been budgeted for ongoing projects on safety, security-critical projects, and airport certification across the country, N10 million has been authorized for the acquisition of airport fire trucks.
N60 million has also been made aside for Namibia, France, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Portugal, the United Kingdom, Russia, and Senegal’s ongoing Bilateral Aviation Safety Agreement and Multilateral Air Service Agreement. Among them are Israel, Pakistan, Iran, South Africa, Eritrea, Namibia, and Venezuela.
