The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has recovered 1.5 million tramadol and Rohypnol pills heading for South Africa at Ikeja’s Murtala Muhammed International Airport.
The NDLEA apprehended two suspects, Bada Akorede and Amusan Sharafadeen, in connection with the shipment, which contained 1,050,000 tramadol pills and 510,000 Rohypnol tablets.
Similarly, the agency’s operatives seized a 2.2kg shipment of cocaine on the Owerri-Onitsha Expressway.
This was said by the NDLEA’s spokesman, Mr Femi Babafemi, on Sunday in Abuja.
According to the statement, the narcotics shipment originated in Lagos and was going to Port Harcourt.
According to him, a suspect, Isaac Okoh (45), has been arrested in connection with the drugs.
The NDLEA also discovered 100kg of Indian hemp from the ceiling of a dealer, Ibrahim Yahaya (35), who was arrested on Friday, December 15, when his house was raided in Lafia.
Babafemi further stated that on December 15, NDLEA agents intercepted 1,496 bottles of codeine in Abuja and detained a suspect, Ozioma Enoja (31), in a follow-up operation.
He further stated that 400 bottles of codeine imported from Port Harcourt were intercepted on the Abaji-Abuja Highway on December 16, and that a suspect, Bala Ishaq, was apprehended in a subsequent operation.
On December 13, NDLEA agents recovered 17 bags of Indian hemp weighing 195.8kg from a bush in Gbanke village, Orhionmwon Local Government Area, Edo, he said.
Babafemi also revealed that anti-narcotic officers in Ogun detained two suspects in the Alamutu Roundabout area of Abeokuta with 279kg of Indian hemp.
