Rivers Crisis: Gov Fubara withdraws injunction against Amaewhule-led Assembly faction

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has withdrawn his action before the State High Court in Isiokpo, Ikwerre Local Government Area, against the Rivers State House of Assembly led by Martins Amaewhule.

According to Platinum Times, at the resumed hearing on Wednesday, Chief Ferdinand Orbih, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, informed the court that his client (Governor Fubara) has instructed him to withdraw the matter from court following the agreement reached by the two wearing parties in the state’s political crisis.

D. O. Okoro, SAN, counsel for the defendants, informed the court that he does not have his clients’ instructions to withdraw the case.

After hearing both counsels, the sitting Judge, Justice Ben Whyte, requested that the defense counsel confer with his client with the latest development as submitted by counsel to the plaintiff.

Following that, Justice Whyte adjourned the case to the 31st of January 2024 for a settlement report.

Governor Fubara has petitioned the court for an injunction preventing the Amaewhule-led group of the State Assembly from impeaching him.

Meanwhile, Governor Fubara’s impeachment notice has been withdrawn by the Amaewhule-led Assembly.

Amaewhule recalled on the floor of the House, in the auditorium of the House of Assembly quarters that had been converted to a hallowed Chamber, that on the 30th of October, 2023, he had read a notice of impeachment signed by 24 Members of the House, pursuant to Section 188 of the 1999 Constitution as amended; which contained particulars of gross misconduct, and was served on the Governor.
