Gunmen kidnap Medical Doctor, Son, others in Benue, demand N50Million ransom

The travellers were kidnapped on Thursday evening, according to Platinum Times, despite many military and police checkpoints located every ten poles.

A medical doctor and his son have reportedly been kidnapped in Otukpa, Benue State, along the Enugu-Makurdi Federal route.

According to SaharaReporters, the travelers were kidnapped on Thursday evening despite the presence of many military and police checkpoints every ten poles.

Otukpa has a border with Amalla Egazi in Enugu State, Nigeria. It houses the headquarters of Benue State’s Ogbadibo Local Government Area.

According to sources, the gunmen seized all the occupants of roughly six vehicles their route to Enugu from Abuja and other northern states on Saturday.

However, Dr Emma Okolo of Niger State General Hospital, his son, and a lady identified as Ego Okozo from Umanaa Ndiagu in Enugu State’s Ezeagu local government area were among the unfortunate travelers who were kidnapped and dragged into the bush on Thursday.

According to a family source who confirmed their kidnapping to SaharaReporters on Saturday, they were on their way home for Christmas and New Year’s celebrations.

“They are Ezeagu community members from Minna, Niger State, who were kidnapped between Otukpa and Amalla Egazi on the Enugu-Makurdi Federal Road.” They belong to the Umanaa Ndiagu tribe.”

Another source, who simply identified himself as Okey Eze, informed SaharaReporters that the medical doctor was traveling with his family in his Sienna vehicle when the gunmen attacked and took them.

“While his wife was not taken, he, his son, and the young lady were taken in his vehicle.” His car has been town to Enugu.”

Meanwhile, a family source said the gunmen had phoned the wife and demanded N50 million in ransom.

In the meantime, attempts to contact the Benue State Police Command were futile because the Command’s spokesman, SP Anene Sewuese Catherine, did not answer to text message inquiries.

She had previously told our reporter on the phone that she was in a noisy environment and requested that a text message be sent to her, to which the report responded.

She had yet to respond to the text message as of the time of filing this article.
