Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has stated his commitment to implementing the eight-point presidential peace deal on the state’s political turmoil.
On Monday morning, Governor Fubara declared this in a Christmas Broadcast.
He did, however, pledge that the deal would be executed in a way that would not jeopardize the people’s common interests or democratic values.
He stated that as a key player in the drama, he has studied the contents of the proclamation and “has come to the conclusion that the peace pact is not as bad as those genuinely opposed to it may portray it.”
He stated that the peace agreement “is not a death sentence,” but rather an opportunity to establish the state’s required stability.
Governor Fubara stated that both sides of the split have shown some willingness to implement the deal thus far.
While the Martin Amaewhule-led Assembly has “withdrawn the purported impeachment notice,” his government has also released the State House of Assembly’s withholding allowance.
Rivers State Governor praised President Bola Tinubu for interfering in the political turmoil, saying the action demonstrated his love for Rivers State.
Governor Fubara also thanked the people for their affection and support for his administration, particularly throughout the crisis.
He committed to never lower the threshold of governance in the state and to always consult broadly in order to better serve the state.
Governor Fubara encouraged state residents to internalize the noble values of Jesus Christ, which are outlined in his teachings of selflessness, genuine love, and true forgiveness, throughout the Christmas season.
He stated that the next year, 2024, will see increased development with the anticipated completion of several important infrastructure, including a piece of the Ring Road Project and the Andoni stretch of the abandoned Ogoni-Andoni-Opobo/Nkoro unity road.
