Plateau killings: PDP Govs visit Mutfwang, donate N100m to victims of crisis

On Thursday, the Peoples Democratic Party Governors Forum (PDP-GF) paid a solidarity visit to Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang at Rayfield Government House in Jos, the state capital.

The Forum chairman, Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, led the PDP governors on their visit.

During the visit, Governor Bala Mohammed extended his condolences to Governor Mutfwang and the people of Plateau State for the recent security breaches.

He was accompanied on the tour by Godwin Obaseki of Edo State, Ademola Adeleke of Osun State, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State, Dr. Peter Mbah of Enugu State, and Seyi Makinde of Oyo State.

Governor Mohammed informed Mutfwang that the PDP Governors were united in their support for him during his difficult time on the Plateau.

“We are with you, and we know you are a Nigerian par excellence and a statesman. We believe you will handle the crisis,” Mohammed affirmed.

In the course of the visit, the PDP Governors donated N100million to support rehabilitation efforts in the affected areas of the state.

Governor Mohammed emphasised the need for a united front, stating that, “We urge the Nigerian government to look at this crisis not as sectarian or sectional because this crisis has been lingering on the Plateau.”

Governor Bala Mohammed called for a decentralised security arrangement and also advocated for state police to curtail future occurrence of the crisis.

“We need some decentralisation of the security apparatus so that we can enhance good governance by having good state police,” he stated.

He highlighted the limitations of the current security structure in Nigeria and the importance of engaging local communities.

Responding, Governor Mutfwang expressed his gratitude to his colleagues for their visit and acknowledged the significance of the visit to his state during its challenging times.

Mutfwang underscored the national issue of insecurity and the imperative to rebuild trust within communities, emphasising the collective responsibility for achieving security.

He expressed optimism in the PDP’s role as a formidable opposition dedicated to delivering dividends of democracy to Nigerians.

“Nigerians have always trusted the PDP, and that for me is an easy thing to continue to do the best I can,” the Plateau State governor stated.
