BREAKING: Massive protest erupts in Minna over high cost of living

On Monday, residents of Minna, the capital of Niger State, blocked main highways throughout the city to protest the country’s high cost of living.

Protesters, including women and youths, were heard singing protest songs as security officials, including police officers, looked on.

The demonstrators claimed that the growing cost of food and the government’s failure to address the situation compelled them to block major routes in the hope that the government would hear their cries.

Yakubu Garba, the Deputy Governor of Niger State, addressed the demonstrators and stated that the government is aware of the suffering and difficulty that families are experiencing at this time.

He stated that the administration is striving to reduce living costs and the repercussions of the elimination of petrol subsidies.
