Two killed, 11 suspects apprehended in fresh Ogun cult clashes

Another two people were reportedly murdered, while numerous more were injured by gunfire during cult confrontations in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State.

The suspects were killed in different regions of Abeokuta last weekend during a brutal confrontation between rival cult groups.

The media claims that two suspected cultists were slain in Abeokuta last week.

According to the publication, those who died were members of the Aiye, Eiye, and Buccaneer confraternities.

The reign of terror began in the state capital on Thursday with the murder of one popular suspected cultist known as Oloba, and another, Tayo Alora, was assassinated on Sunday.

In an interview, Omolola Odutola, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Ogun State Police Command, acknowledged the incidences.

The police spokesman said that two more people had been slain.

Odutola identified Seun Elewode, who was killed during a firefight between competing cult factions in the Adeun region of Lafenwa, Abeokuta, as an Aiye cult member.

According to her, a suspected Buccaneer confraternity member was also killed in the Akinolugbade part of town.

“One Seun Elewode, a notorious member of Aiye cult group who just returned from prison was attacked and shot dead at Adeun, Lafenwa, in Abeokuta.

“He was shot dead during a shoot out at their hideout in a cool spot during a birthday party.

“On February 4, around 10:45 pm in Oshungboye crescent in Akinolugbade, a suspected cultist was shot dead, while another was shot in the chest,” Odutola said.

She however, added that 11 suspects have been arrested in connection with the killings.

She listed those arrested to include: Oluga Abiola, Olamilekan Abiodun, Olarenwaju Michael, Jimoh Okewole, Wasu Tolulope, Abiodun Adeyemi, Muiz Adeyemi, Adebowale Saheed, Adebowale Ayoola, David Oviem and Adebowale Olayori.
