JUST-IN: FG, Kanu hires new counsel
The prosecution and defense teams in the treasonable felony trial of Nnamdi Kanu, the head of the proscribed separatist group Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), have reorganized their legal teams.
The prosecuting team is managed by Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN), who succeeded David Kaswe, a lawyer with the Federal Ministry of Justice, while the defense team is now led by P. A. M. Ejiofor, who replaced Mike Ozekhome (SAN).
Kanu, who is being held in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS), was brought to court this morning, prior to the start of proceedings.
While strict security measures were in place inside and outside the courthouse, there was a large crowd of lawyers, some costumed as Igbo traditional rulers, the defendant’s family members, and other supporters.
