Military personnel honoured for rejecting N1.5m fribe from cattle rustlers
Eight members of the Operation SAFE HAVEN (OPSH) Special Task Force, which is in charge of internal security operations in Bauchi and Plateau states, as well as some parts of Southern Kaduna, have been recognized for their unwavering dedication to duty after rejecting a N1.5 million bribe from two suspected cattle rustlers in Plateau State.
The Nigerian Army announced this via their official X handle (previously Twitter).
The guards intercepted 30 rustled cows at the Bisichi checkpoint in the Barkin Ladi local government region of the State. The stolen livestock, belonging to one Shehu Umar and abducted from Mangu LGA of the State, were in transit to a secret place when the diligent troops conducted a stop-and-search operation.
Anas Usman (20) and Gyang Cholly (42), the occupants of the truck conveying the rustled cows, attempted to bribe the OPSH officers in exchange for a security pass for the stolen cattle.
Despite the huge N1.5 million given, the eight individuals rejected the bribe.
The suspects were quickly apprehended, and the bribe money confiscated.
Major General Abubakar, commander of Operation SAFE HAVEN, praised the OPSH personnel for their outstanding performance.
During the award ceremony, he asked other security professionals to emulate the courage and integrity demonstrated by the eight men in the line of duty.
Brigadier General MO Agi, the Chief of Staff OPSH, spoke on behalf of the OPSH Commander and underlined the significance of following ethical standards when carrying out security tasks.
