JUST-IN: Bandits attack Kaduna mosque, gun down worshippers
At least two worshippers were slain during Friday prayers at Anguwar Makera, Kwasakwasa Community, Birnin Gwari Local Government Area, Kaduna State.
Locals in the region reported that the incident occurred at 2 p.m. on Friday.
Hudu Kwasakwasa, a village leader, corroborated the occurrence, saying the bandits opened fire on the worshipers.
“The two worshipers slain were among those ambushed at the Juma’at Mosque in Angwar Makera today (Friday) by bandits who opened fire on them and abducted others. “The victims have been buried at Old Kuyello Cemetery,” he stated.
He claimed the people were in the second raka’at of the salat when they were attacked, forcing the survivors to flee for their life.
He claimed that the same bandits abducted about 9 persons a few days ago in Angwar Kanawa, a hamlet in the Kwasakwasa area.
He requested assistance from the relevant authorities, claiming that the bandits were ravaging the communities uncontested.
The latest attack on worshipers occurred less than 24 hours after bandits kidnapped over 287 students from the state’s neighboring Chikun Local Government Area.
The State Government and the Police Command have yet to react to the mosque incident, as the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansir Hassan, could not be reached on the phone and has yet to respond to a text message sent to him seeking clarity.
