Just In: Fear as fire raze BMU hostel

On Wednesday, there was anxiety on the Bayelsa State Medical University, BMU, campus along Mgbi Road in Yenagoa, the state capital, following an early morning fire outbreak at a hostel.

According to reports, a girl was attempting to iron her clothes when the fire, which started at the university’s female hostel at 6:40 am, was started by an electric spark.

According to reports, as the alarm about the fire outbreak went off, panic ensued, sending many students running for cover while others frantically grabbed valuables from the hostel.

The Federal and Bayelsa State Fire Services responded to the emergency call swiftly, and they were able to prevent the fire from spreading to other rooms in the structure, according to reports.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Ebitimitula Etebu and Chief Security Officer Prince Diete-Spiff congratulated the firefighters from the two fire services for their prompt response to the emergency.

There were no casualties or physical injuries, except than the loss of the tenants’ belongings, which included clothing, paperwork, and other things.
