Kwara Govt ends 3-Day work policy for civil servants
The Kwara State government has stated that the decree that reduced governmental officials’ workdays from five to three has been reversed.
On June 5, 2023, the state’s Head of Service, Mrs. Susan Oluwole, sent a letter to the government requesting that the state’s workweek be cut from five to three days. She said that the choice was made to lessen the impact on state employees of the federal government’s suspension of fuel subsidies.
Mrs. Oluwole overturned the decision in a letter to the leaders of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
She claimed that the new directive will enable the federal government and organized labor to develop plans for more effective interventions to lessen the impact of the elimination of subsidies.
The intervention will be revealed very soon, according to the letter, which was signed by Mr. Okedare Adeyinka for the Head of Service.
“I am directed to inform all heads of Ministries, Department and Agencies (MDAs) that the reduced number of working days have been reversed; hence, all categories of workers are to observe the normal five working days per week, with effect from July 10, 2023.
“Workers not covered in the initial workday reduction, which lasted a few days, will have stipends given to them as a show of appreciation,” the statement added.
Workers that were exempted initially were teachers, health practitioners and other categories of workers providing essential services in the state.
