Delta Tribunal: Ngozi Okolie, LP sacked Rep vows to appeal judgement
Hon. Ngozi Okolie, a representative for the Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has promised to challenge the Asaba National Assembly Election Tribunal’s decision to invalidate his election.
In response to the court’s decision, Okolie, who was elected on the Labour Party platform, claimed that Ndudi Elumelu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was pursuing a fruitless endeavor.
Additionally, he claimed that democracy and the legal system were truly putting him on trial.
The elected official swore to uphold the authority bestowed upon him by the people when they chose him to serve as their representative.
Until the appeal is heard and determined, Ngozi Okolie urged his supporters and the good citizens of the Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency to maintain quiet.
“Nobody will take the mandate of the Aniocha/Oshimili people from the back door. We shall overcome.
“My lawyers have briefed me about the judgement of the tribunal. I plead with all my supporters and sympathisers to remain calm and keep hopes alive.
“Ngozi Okolie is not the person on trial, but our democracy and judiciary are on trial. Thank God there is an opening for appeal, and afterwards God is the final judge. I have briefed my lawyers to do the needful.
The tribunal had maintained that as of May 28, 2023, the Labour Party did not duly sponsor Okolie as he was not a member of the party when the party primary was conducted.
