Wole Soyinka reacts to Jaye Lo video, says ‘Davido doesn’t owe Muslims apology

Prof. Wole Soyinka, a literary giant, has urged artist Davido not to apologize for the contentious video he released on his social media accounts.
According to Platinum Times Nigeria, Davido received harsh criticism after posting a clip of the music video for his signee, Logos Olori’s new single, “Jaye Lo,” on Twitter. The film showed people dancing and worshipping in front of a mosque.
Eventually, the singer gave in to criticism and removed the video, but she still refused to apologize.
Muslims continue to call for Davido to publicly apologize despite the video’s removal.
Recently, a group of Muslim youngsters protested Davido in the streets of Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, by setting the singer’s enormous flag on fire.
Soyinka, however, insisted that Davido did not owe Muslims an apology in a statement made public on Tuesday.
The Nobel laureate claimed that Nasir El Rufai, a former governor of Kaduna State, had made disparaging remarks towards Christians in the past but had never been requested to apologize.
He said, “There was nothing to apologize about, and that applied equally to El Rufai’s comments at the time. It should come as no surprise that I equally absolutely disagree with Shehu Sani if indeed, as reported, he has demanded an apology from Davido on behalf of the Moslem community.”
Soyinka added that it wasn’t Davido’s music that lynched Deborah Yakubu, a second-year Christian college student who was killed by a mob of Muslim students in Sokoto last year over alleged blasphemy.
