Fashola break silence on alleged news of writing judgement for tribunal, vows to jail peddlers

Mr. Babatunde Fashola, SAN, a former minister of works and housing, denied yesterday that he was involved in writing the ruling for the judges of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT), calling the claim false and defamatory.

The former minister thought the accusations might be a part of a larger effort to undermine the judiciary.

He voiced his unhappiness with the spread of false stories on social media platforms and urged security authorities to take action against those involved for the act.

Fashola slammed the people who made the charges and referred to them as agents of destabilization because it was dangerous while also making it clear that he had been gone from Abuja for a considerable amount of time, a circumstance which rendered the assertions false.

However, he has started the process of submitting legal petitions to the National Communications Commission (NCC) and the management of the microblogging website X (formerly known as Twitter) in response to the insulting tweets and online publications.

He further pleaded with the appropriate security authorities to take this issue extremely seriously because it went to the very foundation of judicial independence.

Fashola stressed the significance of identifying the perpetrators as well as their sponsors and making sure they were subjected to the appropriate legal repercussions because he thought the allegations might be a part of a larger effort to undermine the judiciary by those looking to manipulate the institution for their own gain.

Contrarily, Mr. Hakeem Bello, Special Adviser to Fashola on Media, who also signed the press release, advised the people to dismiss the untrue claims and urged them to report anyone involved in spreading them to the appropriate security agencies.
