Ministerial screening: El-rufia should be mandated to sign an undertaking before confirmation – Doyin Okupe
Doyin Okupe, who served as the former director general of the Peter Obi presidential campaign, has pleaded with the Senate to nandate ministerial nominee Nasir El-Rufai to sign an undertaking before being confirmed.
El-Rufai should be forced to sign a pledge promising not to criticize religion, according to Okupe.
He encouraged the senate to rethink its choice to remove El-Rufai from the ministerial ranks.
Okupe claimed in a tweet that El-Rufai is capable of managing Nigeria’s electricity problem.
According to Okupe:
“I am not a fan of Mallam El-Rufai, whom I consider to be a radical of some sort and who has in the recent past demonstrated some traits of religious extremism.
“Still, very few people will doubt El-Rufai’s competence and immense capacity to perform.
“The Senate may insist on an undertaking from him before his confirmation that while in office as minister, he will refrain from making any comments or remarks on religion.
“The power ministry is extremely important in our economy and in our serious efforts to combat poverty.
“If any Nigerian can fix our energy problems, former Governor El-Rufai is certainly one of such people.”
Because of various security concerns, the Senate has declined to confirm El-Rufai.
He was on President Bola Tinubu’s list of 48 nominees for ministerial positions.
