Customs impounds contraband goods worth over one billion in 8 months – report

Between January 30 and August 9, 2023, the Federal Operations Unit, Zone ‘D’ of the Nigeria Customs Service intercepted contraband valued at N1.17 billion.

This was said by Joseph Adelaja, the Acting FOU Controller, on Wednesday in Bauchi.

The unit made a total of 88 seizures, the most notable of which were nine sacks containing 396.4kg of pangolin scales and claws and 174,585 liters of petroleum products, according to him.

He went on to say that the unit also seized 328 bags of 50kg foreign rice, 343 bags of fertilizer, and 1,800 bags of 50kg sugar, among other things.

He claims that the team seized two African crowned cranes, an antelope, a chunk of lion bone, and a plastic jar with lion fat.

Adelaja claims that the agents also seized 1,800 bags of sugar (each weighing 50 kg), 88 cartons of pesticides, 342 packs of foreign candy, 190 cartons of flavor-infused powdered drinks, 23 sacks of worn shoes, and 342 packs of foreign candy.
