Crime: Police announce ‘Operation Zero Crime’ in Rivers

“Operation Zero Crime” has been declared a state-wide initiative by the Rivers State Police Command.

This, according to the police, is a part of initiatives to reduce crime and provide a safe haven for citizens and investors in Rivers State.

The one-week initiative was started by Nwonyi Polycarp Emeka, the state’s commissioner of police, with the goals of guaranteeing safety across the state’s 23 local government areas and spreading the phrase “police is your friend.”

The program’s coordinator, journalist Kate Ezeigbo, revealed this following a meeting with the committee. She claimed that in order to keep the state safe, the state Police Command worked in conjunction with the Rivers State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN), comedians, hoteliers, and corporate organizations.

Nollywood actors, educators, and professionals in the legal and medical fields have also contributed to the creation of the curriculum.

The one-week event, according to Ezeigbo, will include a road walk, workshop, medical outreach by the Commissioner of Police, essay contest, beauty pageant (with crowns for the Queen and King), football competition (with the CP Cup), and concert (called “Night of Laughter”).

The police commissioner, his management team, and officers will conduct stop-and-search operations, give out gifts, and visit key flashpoints to inform young people about the reasons they should avoid crime and lead law-abiding lives, according to the statement.

She also made a suggestion that the police chief would start an amnesty program that would give criminals and members of cults a chance to confess their crimes, give up their weapons, and reintegrate into society.
