Again, gunmen attack Benue Link bus, kidnap 11 passengers
According to several sources, gunmen attacked a Benue Link passenger bus on Sunday night and abducted at least 11 people.
The driver of the vehicle and four passengers were alleged to have escaped following the attack, which occurred about 10 p.m. on the Ogbokolo-Otukpa route in Benue’s Okpokpwu Local Government Area.
According to a reliable source, the kidnappers initially sought N60 million as a ransom to free the passengers, but later lowered their demand to N16 million.
On September 10, a similar incident involving two buses from the transportation firm occurred, and 28 passengers were kidnapped.
Twenty-six of those kidnapped have been released, but two remain in the hands of the kidnappers.
Mr. Omale Omale, the Commissioner for Power, Energy, and Transport, verified the news to reporters in Makurdi.
He did, however, say that specifics about the incident were still hazy.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Television Authority, NTA, Makurdi Zonal Centre, said one of the passengers kidnapped was an NTA employee.
Pam Nyam, the Centre’s Zonal Director, has informed the police of the situation and demanded immediate action to free all of the abducted passengers.
