Alleged Fraud: Police apprehend Ministry Director, 2 others in Kano

Abubakar Gambo, the State Ministry of Water Resources’ Director of Administration and General Services, and two other people have been taken into custody by the Kano State Police Command on charges of embezzling public property.

In a phone conversation on Tuesday, Commissioner of Police Mr. Hussaini Gumel revealed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

According to Gumel, two other people were also taken into custody: Nuhu Mansir, the former manager of the Karefa Irrigation Scheme in Tudun Wada Local Government Area, and Baba Yahaya, Assistant Secretary, Administration.

They were taken into custody on suspicion of faking a letter approving the sale of a large water pump and tank, which he claimed was an essential public service.

Gumel clarified that the auction’s authorization was a scam, as evidenced by the Commissioner of Water Resources, Alhaji Ali Makoda, publicly denying any involvement.

The CP stated that the suspects would shortly be brought before the court and that the case was being investigated.

“We are investigating the matter and as soon as the investigation is concluded, the suspects will be charged to court,” Gumel said.
