Angry Edo mob lynch two policemen, injure others

A mob battered two riot police officers to death and injured two others in Ikpeshi, Akoko-Edo Local Government Area, Edo State.

The victims were named as Inspector Brownson Brown, Inspector Abubaka Fakkuk, Sergeant Taiye Ojiefo, and Sergeant Elisha John, all from Rivers State’s Police Mobile Force (PMF)19 in Port Harcourt.

While Fakkuk and John were lynched, Brown and Ojiefo were being treated at Ifejola Hospital in Igarra, Akoko-Edo Local Government Area, Edo State.

Trouble was alleged to have started when the cops, who were escorting a former state lawmaker, Emmanuel Agbaje, were attacked by the mob for killing a motorcycle, a woman, and her child with their vehicle.

According to sources, Ikpeshi youths attacked the Edo State Security Vigilance Network headquarters, where the police officers were seized, overpowered, and beaten to death, while two others were injured.

The two injured police officers were rescued by the vigilantes, and their service firearms were recovered from the mob.

Tajudeen Alade, Chairman of the Akoko-Edo Local Government Council, criticized the mob action and declared that the perpetrators will be discovered, apprehended, and prosecuted in order to dissuade other irresponsible youths.

Chidi Nwabuzor, the Edo Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) and Superintendent of Police (SP), verified the occurrence.
