Aviation workers halt strike as NCAA intervenes

The National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE), which represents aviation workers, has decided not to go on strike by August 16.
The development was verified by Mr. Ocheme Oba, General Secretary of NUATE, in a statement released on Wednesday in Lagos.
Aviation security staff would go on an indefinite nationwide strike over low pay, according to NUATE’s August 15 circular.
According to the circular, the workers often receive a meager N30,000 per month, stating that this is an inadequate wage that causes the workers great suffering.
Oba revealed that the union informed the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, in a letter outlining its decision to engage in industrial action.
He claimed that after receiving the letter, the authority stepped in and asked for a week to consider the demands of the workers.
According to the Union’s scribe, the NCAA agreed to arrange a meeting for the union, private security companies, and airlines.
