In an attack on Kasuwa-Daji town in  Kaura-Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State, bandits killed two police officers, two other civilians, and abducted 40 people.

According to locals, the bandits attacked the town early Tuesday morning and began firing intermittently to intimidate inhabitants.

Abubakar Kaura, a resident, claimed the bandits infiltrated the town with sophisticated weapons, including an anti-aircraft gun.

He claimed they stormed the residence of Hamisu Kasuwar-Daji, the former State Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), and kidnapped one of his wives and grandchildren.

According to him, the former NURTW chief’s residence is next to the town’s police station, and the bandits raided it, disarmed the officers on duty, and killed two.

Another resident stated that the bandits killed two local residents during the attack.

He verified that approximately 40 people were abducted during the house-to-house raid.

“Two residents were also killed, not only policemen. As of now, about 40 persons have been whisked away by the bandits,” he said.

While confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Zamfara State Police Command, Yazid Abubakar did not indicate the number of persons abducted.

“Yes, there was an attack in Kasuwar-Daji early hours of today. We are yet to confirm the number of the residents abducted but the Commissioner of Police has deployed additional troops to restore normalcy in the town,” he said.
