Bandits storm Zamfara, kidnap Monarch, four others

Over the weekend, bandits broke into the Yashi community in Zamfara State’s Bukkuyum Local Government Area, killing one person and kidnapping four others, including the community’s traditional ruler.

The villagers were unable to harvest crops since the bandits prevented them from entering their farms.

According to Hon. Hamisu Alhaji Faru, the member from Bukkuyum South who represents the community in the Zamfara State House of Assembly, the bandits invaded the area on Friday night at around three in the morning, killed a local, and fled with five people—including the traditional ruler.

Nonetheless, he gave his word that the state government, working with the security services, has stepped up efforts to prevent the bandits from evacuating the victims far from the town.

He asked for peace in the neighborhood and stated that the victims would soon be rescued. He also stated that the governor was extremely worried about the state’s security and had not given up on finding a way to stop the threat.

Speaking about the reason village farmers were afraid to go to their farms and harvest crops, the congressman said that the armored personnel carrier (APC) that was stationed in the Gwashi area had been removed.

‘We are appealing to the people to be patient, I’m in government and I know the effort our Governor and the Deputy Governor are making on security matters. By the grace of Allah we would deal with the situation, ” he said.
