Beginning in September, new varsity curriculum will be implemented – NUC

The Core Curriculum Minimum Academic Standards (CCMAS), created for universities, will start to be implemented in September, according to Chris Maiyaki, acting executive secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC).

This was expressed by Maiyaki on Wednesday at the Stakeholders’ Colloquium on CCMAS in Abuja.

She claimed that the new curriculum would elevate Nigerian universities to the top of Africa.

“The reviewed curriculum is endowed with unique features tailored to meet the evolving demands of the rapidly changing world. It emphasises interdisciplinary learning, soft and critical skills development, entrepreneurship and value creation,” he said.

Prof. Tahir Mamman, the minister of education, asked institutions to utilize the 30% university senate’s contribution to the fullest and make sure that learning outcomes and skills are achieved regardless of the main discipline.

The minister, who was represented by Permanent Secretary David Adejo, stated that the talents must be easily transferable to the academic environment, the nation as a whole, and the global community in particular.

He said that the CCMAS contained 70 percent of the whole curriculum and that university senates were granted 30 percent to incorporate the distinctive characteristics of their individual campuses.
