Benue Assembly recalls two suspended lawmakers

The three-month ban imposed on two members of the Benue State House of Assembly, Anthony Agom (PDP-Okpokwu) and Solomon Gyila (APC-Gwer-West), has been lifted.

The development came as a result of a motion made by Isaac Ochekiliye (PDP-Ohimini) during Friday’s plenary.

According to Platinum Times, four lawmakers were suspended on Monday for interfering with parliamentary proceedings.

Ochekiliye urged the House to overturn the three-month suspension of the four members so that their constituents would not be denied adequate representation.

He encouraged the Speaker and other House officers to reconsider their conduct and recall the legislators.

Michael Audu (PDP-Adoka/Ugboju) supported the motion and urged that the suspension be lifted so that they may resume representing their constituents efficiently.

Also addressing, Abu Umoru (PDP-Apa), Simon Gabo (APC-Mata), and Manger Manger (APC-Tarka) encouraged the House leadership to lift the suspension for the sake of humanity and to provide a sense of belonging to their constituents.

The Speaker, Hyacinth Dajoh, emphasized in his verdict that the decision was not personal, but was taken in the best interests of the state.
