Benue Govt to pay BSU medical students N103,000 monthly stipends

Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has reinstated the bonding arrangement for medical students at Benue State University College of Health Sciences.

This was revealed at the college’s 9th Professional Induction and Admission Ceremony for the 2023 Graduating Doctors on Monday in Makurdi.

The state government has promised to give monthly allowances of 103,000 to all medical students at the university till their graduation under this renewed bonding agreement.

However, this comes with the requirement that they serve the state for a minimum of two years before deciding on their future activities.

The bonding arrangement, which had been implemented during Gabriel Suswam’s administration, had been canceled during Samuel Ortom’s administration.

This halt resulted in a steady exodus of graduates seeking better jobs outside the state.

While making the announcement, Governor Alia invited Benue medical professionals who had left the state in quest of better possibilities to return, assuring them of enhanced opportunities within Benue. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the state-owned university and attaining the clear objectives outlined in its policy statements.

He praised the wisdom and dedication of the university’s Medical School’s founding fathers and employees, recognizing their resilience in growing the school from its inception to its current stature despite severe hurdles.

Governor Alia praised the institution’s medical graduates for their outstanding contributions to the global healthcare industry.

He announced an increase in the MBBS admission limit from 75 to 150 students, attributing this to the institution’s excellent medical facilities and the high-quality doctors it produces.
