Boko Haram ambushes troops, kill one personnel, three civilians, kidnap many in Borno
Four people, including a soldier, were killed in an ambush by Boko Haram terrorists along Gwoza Limankara Road, 134 kilometers from Maiduguri.
They were killed in a convoy of civilian JTF and military personnel escorting travelers along the trip.
Several more motorists were taken by Boko Haram extremists while a military patrol van and five other vehicles were burned on fire.
According to a local source, the incident occurred at 5 p.m. on Saturday, but communications were delayed until Sunday afternoon due to a failing network.
Drivers are still missing
“I can inform you that a Boko Haram ambush along the Gwoza-Limankara-Uvaha Road killed three civilians and one soldier.”
“On that route, the deceased soldier was among the security agencies escorting motorists and passengers.”
“Approximately five commercial vehicles and a military patrol van were also set ablaze, and several other motorists are still missing in the bush as of Sunday afternoon,” he added.
However, as of the time of publication, military authorities had yet to comment on the situation.
The incident is the latest in a series of Boko Haram attacks in Nigeria’s North-East.
Since the hardline Islamist group launched an uprising in 2009, at least 40,000 people have been killed and more than two million have been displaced.
The conflict has moved into neighboring Chad, Niger, and Cameroon, forcing the formation of a regional military force to combat the extremists.
