BREAKING: Bandits storm Plateau Market, kill 7, injure others
Seven persons were reportedly shot dead, and many more were injured, as gunmen raided a market in Zurak Campani, Wase Local Government Area, Plateau State.
It was discovered that the tragedy occurred on market day, when the community was alive with business activity.
Abdullahi Hussaini, a youth leader in the region who corroborated the occurrence, told Daily Trust that the gunmen arrived at the market about 2 p.m. on Sunday and began fire on individuals conducting business.
He stated, “The gunmen arrived at the market in large numbers on motorcycles. They began shooting sporadically, killing seven individuals instantaneously and injuring many others. The shooters successfully launched the attack and left without opposition because no one expected a security danger at the time.
“The shooters ran into the jungle, but police have been deployed to the village to restore law and order. “We are calling for more security deployment in the area because we don’t know what will happen anytime soon,” the youth leader explained.
DSP Alabo Alfred, the spokesperson for the state police command, did not respond to our correspondent’s inquiry.
According to the Daily Trust, the Wase area had previously experienced banditry and kidnapping activities but had been tranquil for the past year, until the Sunday occurrence.
